Three people are injured after 44 cars were involved in an accident today causing I-96 W to shut down for almost three hours.

The accidents happened around 1 p.m. in Cascade Township. The cause is not yet known but its likely weather-related since Grand Rapids got slammed with snow this afternoon, causing some areas to be white-out.

WB I-96 was shut down from Cascade Twp. all the way to Alden Nash Rd, near Lowell. because of the multiple crashes. GRPD told WOOD-TV it was "definitely a domino effect."

The three injured people were taken to the hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.

Grand Rapids has a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 8 a.m. Monday. Occasional snow is expected with a total, by morning, anywhere from 1-4 inches. Be on the safe side and prepare for slippery roads when driving this evening and heading into work in the morning.
