This Reckless Way to Celebrate NYE Could Land You Behind Bars in Michigan

This weekend we say GOOD BYE to 2023 and hello to 2024. I always find the new year to be a refreshing time to reflect on the past year and to make goals for what I want to accomplish in the new year. For others, the temptation to party hard to celebrate (or drown out) the previous year is extremely strong.

There are tons of things you can do to kick off the year at midnight. You can have a toast, kiss the person you love the most, or even just sing a jolly round of "Auld Lang Syne". But there is one thing people love to do to ring in the new year that is extremely dangerous and illegal in Michigan.

If you're the type of person who likes to make some big loud noises at midnight, you have one option that is legal, and one that is very not to choose from. The obvious one would be to shoot off fireworks.

Yes, in Michigan you are allowed to shoot off Fireworks on New Years Eve / Day. You just have to wrap up your explosions by 1am on New Years Day in order to be within the rules of the law. So go out there and blow up everything you have stored leftover from July.

But the illegal thing you can't do is fire your gun into the air. While it may seem like an obvious thing, every year people go outside, fire into the air while fireworks are going off, and risk their own lives as well as the lives of people around them.

In fact, according to Michigan law, you are not allowed to shoot your gun around any gathering of more than 3 people, nor can you shoot within 450 of a residential area. So if you're in city limits, this law extra applies to you.

Not only that, it's extremely dangerous because as we all know from Sir Issaic Newton, what goes up must come down, and that includes the bullets you may fire into the air in celebration.

So, stick to the fireworks if you want to get loud and rowdy. We all want to make it safe, happy and healthy into 2024.
