Last week, the Troy Police Department in Michigan announced that they would be getting a police cat if they reached their goal of 10,000 followers on Twitter. This morning, they reached that mark and announced they will be getting a police cat!

The path to a police cat and 10,000 followers was filled with plenty of fun tweets and the Troy Police Department had many reasons for wanting a police cat.

Included among their claims:

  • Undercover cops sometimes get found out. No one would suspect an undercover cat.
  • 9/10 people report feeling much safer when there’s a cat around. The other “person” is a K9.

There is an actual purpose behind the campaign other than just a love of cats. #WeWantAPoliceCat has allowed the police department to further connect with the community while simultaneously growing their Twitter followers to connect with even more people.

And now a police cat is on the way!
