After a long World Cup run, the U.S. Women's Soccer Team fell short of a third World Cup title losing to Japan this afternoon.

The U.S. was the favorite going into today's final and everyone was watching, even President Obama.  Earlier today the president's twitter account tweeted:

To the women of our national soccer team: Sorry I can't be there to see you play, but I'll be cheering you on from here. Let's go. –BO

The U.S. Women's tournament run has been filled with dramatic goals, but this time those dramatic goals favored the other side.  Japan scored with just 10 minutes left  to tie the game 1-1 and send it to extra time.  In extra time the U.S. took a 2-1 lead only to have Japan score in the final minutes again and tie the game 2-2.  The game went to penalty kicks where the U.S. missed 3 out of 4 and lost 3-1.

It was fun to watch, but a disappointing finish to an exciting tournament run for the U.S. Women's Soccer team.
