There's a new movie theater opening in Grand Rapids.

This Thursday is the official opening of the Urban Institute for Contemporary Art's new film theatre.  The theatre is located at the UICA at Fulton/Division in downtown Grand Rapids.

The new 197 seat theatre opened to the public during ArtPrize and showed a performance by Ritsu Katsumata.  I stopped by during ArtPrize and can tell you the seats are very large and very comfortable.

This Thursday UICA will begin showing films on the 22 foot screen.  The first is an Italian film called "Cinema Paradiso".  "Cinema Paradiso" won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film in 1989.  It also won the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in 1989.  Showtimes are 2:00, 5:00, and 8:00.

Tickets are $8.00, $4.00 for UICA members.
