The Transplant Games of America are coming to West Michigan in 2012.  Grand Valley State University will host the games which are expected to bring around 700 athletes to West Michigan.

The Transplant Games of America will feature athletes who have had an organ, tissue, or bone marrow transplant.  According to mlive.com, events being considered for the competition include:  swimming, bowling, cycling, racquetball, table tennis, badminton, 3-on-3 basketball, golf, volleyball and traditional track and field events.  Athletes must obtain permission from their doctor to participate.

The West Michigan Sports Commission will be hosting the games, which will take place July 28 - 31, 2012.

The Transplant Games of America explains the goal of the games:

The goal is to raise awareness about how many people are waiting for a life saving transplant and provide ways for people to sign up to become an organ donor so that someday they can make one final gift.  The gift of life.
