Thursday evening hundreds of residents in the Heartside Neighborhood came out to Heartside Park for the Heartside Unity Picnic.

The event was organized  by The Heartside Neighborhood Collaboration Project as a way to bring residents, city leaders and police together.  Which by looks of the pictures, the picnic seemed to accomplish the organizer’s goal of uniting the neighborhood and police officers.

There was plenty of free food, live music, prizes for the kids and good conversation.

Grand Rapids police as well as city leaders have been working hard to start the meaningful conversation around the city to stay ahead of tensions that have been prevalent around the country.

It’s good to see so many people coming out to these various community events.
