With the weather warming up (at least today, never mind the storm that's supposed to hit this weekend), the Walker Police Department wants to remind people to be safe while playing Pokemon Go.

Walker PD posted the tips to Facebook, saying they know Pokemon go is still popular, as "Officer Ringling plays it all the time and never stops talking about his Pikachu."

They're asking residents to follow these tips as they are out and about playing Pokemon Go this summer:

  • Be alert at all times, always stay aware of your surroundings.Example: Don't be so involved in the game that you walk into the intersection of Lake MI Drive/Wilson in a desperate attempt to catch a high level Beedrill.
  • Play in pairs or as a group in well-lit areas to ensure your safety. Remember, our parks close at dusk. Trying to catch a nocturnal Gengar is not a valid excuse.
  • Do not drive or ride your bike, skateboard, or other device while interacting with the app because you can’t do both safely. Example: Don't be the guy who stops his car on Butterworth, blocks a lane of traffic, and then wanders into the woods to find a nearby Squirtle.
  • Do not trespass onto private property or go to areas you usually would not if you weren’t playing Pokémon Go.
Example: If you climb over a fence, that is marked with several "NO TRESPASSING: VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED" signs, the only thing you will catch is a ticket.
  • Be cautious of being lured into a bad situation. Just like the stereotypical 'Free Candy' van, don't get into a stranger's vehicle because he promises to take you 'where the legendary Pokemon are.'

Walker PD say that many of these situations have actually happened in Walker, so that's is the reason for the reminder.

So yeah, if you're compelled to "catch 'em all" use your brain and be safe.
