In today's bit of weird news, it turns out that Homeland Security grants paid for Sno-Cone machines throughout West Michigan. Seriously.

Officials are saying that the machines are actually for medical use, not recreational use, but people, including Stephen Colbert, find it a bit odd.

The machines that went to 13 counties -- including Kent, Ionia, Muskegon, Ottawa and Newaygo -- are Arctic Blast Sno-Cone makers that can, according to one sales list, shave 500 pounds of ice per hour.

The written justification of the funding, according to WOOD TV-8 says that the "machines will assist with treating the onset of heat exhaustion and stroke during large scale events or activities including possible terrorist incidents or similar emergencies."

However, as is pointed out in the Colbert piece below, officials are also saying that it will be used at promotional events to recruit volunteers. And they'll probably offer the popular red and blue "flavors". Check out the hilarious clip below.
