Back to school shopping can get expensive, especially if you have multiple kids. I know that parents are always scouring the Sunday papers for the best deals on markers, folders, notebooks, pencils, backpacks and more. So, I thought I'd help y'all out. While I may not be a parent, I am a pretty good bargain shopper (and I love school supplies, it's an addiction). So, I did some looking around and found the places where you can get the best deals on back-to-school supplies.

Meijer is the first place I go for school supply shopping. Often, they will have bins upon bins of everything that your child could possibly need as far as markers, crayons, erasers, folders, etc. for only $1 a piece (or box in the case of markers, crayons, and pencils). In addition, they have a huge backpack selection and you're sure to find just the right one for your "Cars 2" or "iCarly" fan. Their motto of "Higher Standards. Lower Prices." definitely applies when it comes to school supply shopping. PLUS, you can check out all of their sale ads online (bonus tip, if you sign up for their MPerks program, you get the sale ad for the following week on Friday, so you get a sneak peak).

I would be remiss if I didn't mention one of my all-time guilty pleasure stores, Target. I never leave there with just the items I went looking for, there's always something else that catches my eye. If you check out their website before you go, you can often find some great coupons as well. Their backpacks are really reasonably priced, and if you have a child who wears a uniform to school, they have those as well.

Though it is, by name, an office supply store, Staples carries most if not all of the non-clothes related items on your kids' back-to-school list. From notebooks, to pencils, to rulers to graphing calculators, Staples has some great deals leading up to the school year's start. While there may not be an "Easy Button" for back-to-school shopping, they have an entire back-to-school section on their website where you can shop by grade, which makes the shopping a little bit easier.

Something cool that I discovered during my search is something that Walmart does. Not only do they sell all of your individual school supplies, backpacks, uniforms and what not. But, they also sell entire kits based on grade level! Kits start as low as $10 ($18 if you want to include a backpack), and include things like markers, pencils, glue, notepads and scissors. It's like an all-in-one shopping stop where you don't really even have to pick the things it! Simple and quick are two words I like when it comes to shopping.

In this day and age, you can stay home and save big online. Instead of driving all around town trying to find the best deals, stay home and shop your favorite stores through deal websites like,, or offers a huge variety of supplies, varying colors and characters and some great bundles as well. I found a Crayola bundle that included notebooks, crayons, markers, pencils, pencil sharpener, erasers, hand sanitizer and a ton more for only $30. So, be sure to shop around for the best deals possible before making your purchase.
