On Tuesday, Allegiant Air announced that they will be adding nonstop service to Nashville and Savannah from Gerald R. Ford International airport in Grand Rapids beginning this June.

That brings the total destinations of nonstop flights out of Grand Rapids to 29.

Where would you like to see Grand Rapids head to next?

The current nonstop destinations out of Grand Rapids include:

  • Baltimore
  • Charlotte
  • Chicago
  • Dallas
  • Denver
  • Detroit
  • Fort Lauderdale
  • Fort Myers
  • Houston
  • Las Vegas
  • Miami
  • Minneapolis
  • New York
  • Nashville
  • Orlando
  • Philadelphia
  • Phoenix
  • Punta Gorda
  • St. Petersburg
  • Sarasota
  • Savannah
  • Tampa
  • Washington D.C.

New York, Orlando, Phoenix and Washington D.C. each include more than one airport. There are a total of nine destinations in Florida, all but two are seasonal.

Phoenix and Las Vegas are the only two stops found west of Denver. Maybe it's time for that to change?

If you check the list of the 15 busiest airports in the U.S. by passenger volume from 2017, you'll see that Grand Rapids already flies direct to 12 of them. The three that Grand Rapids does not have a direct flight to are Los Angeles International Airport (#2 with 84,557,968 passengers), San Francisco International Airport (#7 with 55,822,129 passengers) and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (#9 with 46,934,194 passengers). All three would make nice options and seemingly fill a need.

Can we please have all three?

If not, I'm going with Seattle. That's if they have the space. There is talk of building a new $4 billion terminal in Seattle as the growth of the airport hasn't kept pace with the growth of the number of passengers coming through the airport. Seattle has routinely been named among the fastest-growing airports in the country in recent years.

Allegiant Air's announcement of the additions of Nashville and Savannah out of Grand Rapids also came with the announcement that they are building a $42.8 million base and bringing jobs, new aircraft and new routes to Grand Rapids.

Seattle-Tacoma is unlikely to be a new location for Allegiant, since they typically fly to smaller cities, but Allegiant also announced on Tuesday that they are adding flights at Bellingham International Airport. Bellingham is about 90 miles north of Seattle, just south of Vancouver. As Allegiant Air expands in Grand Rapids, maybe connecting to Bellingham could make sense.
