WZZM-13: State Trooper Killer Eric Knysz Attempts Suicide in Prison Cell

Eric Knysz, the man convicted of killing Michigan State Police Trooper Paul K. Butterfield, is hospitalized in critical condition after attempting suicide in his Jackson prison cell, WZZM-13 reported Monday night.

Knysz, 20, of Irons, was found hanging Monday afternoon in his cell at Charles Egeler Reception & Guidance Center, according to the Mason County Sheriff’s Department. He was rushed to Allegiance Health Hospital and is reportedly on a ventilator.

He was sentenced April 8 in Mason County Circuit Court to life in prison in connection with Butterfield’s September 2013 death.
