Beyoncé Knowles has fully embraced her title as a feminist, and apparently her fans have gotten the message.

The singer has been named one of the top 10 feminist celebrities of the year in an online poll conducted by the Ms. Foundation and Cosmopolitan magazine.

British actress Emma Watson came in at No. 1 as a United Nations goodwill ambassador actively supporting the UN women's HeForShe campaign promoting gender equality.

Beyonce secured the No. 4 position for taking a feminist stance on her visual album, "***Flawless," which included a speech from Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Taking second was actress, reality television star, television producer and LGBT advocate Laverne Cox, with MSNBC's Rachel Maddow third in the poll.

Through Adichie, Beyonce gave her fans an important message: "We teach girls to shrink themselves, to make themselves smaller. We say to girls, 'You can have ambition, but not too much. You should aim to be successful, but not too successful. Otherwise, you will threaten the man.' ... Feminist: the person who believes in the social political, and economic equality of the sexes."

Aside from Beyonce, Cher is the only other singer on the list.

Here's the top 10:

  1. Emma Watson
  2. Laverne Cox
  3. Rachel Maddow
  4. Beyoncé Knowles
  5. Cher
  6. Amy Poehler
  7. Tina Fey
  8. Meryl Streep
  9. Mindy Kaling
  10. Ann Curry
