Oh no, its Mothra (old Godzilla reference). No, it's not Mothra, but it is a gypsy moth and they cause a lot of problems and now you can help stop them.

According to WOOD, Grand Rapids wants to help train the public in the fight against the invasive gypsy moth population that keeps growing in the region.

There is a particular area in Grand Rapids where these moths are very destructive and that is 28th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue.

The problem the moths cause is, the eat the canopy of leaves and especially oak trees. The leaves are where the trees get their energy and once those are eaten most trees cannot regrow the leaves so trees end up dying.

If you want to find out how to deal with these pests, there is training at Oakgrove Cemetary Friday at 2:30 p.m.. All over the cemetery, there are branches, tree stumps and even headstones that are covered in larvae and have already started to hatch. You will be taught how to remove them trees and surfaces.
