Man Demands Wife Stay Home After Giving Birth, Says She Should Be ‘Grateful’ to Not Work

A pregnant woman on Reddit says she was shocked her husband has suddenly demanded she stay at home and not work after she gives birth to their child.

"I am due in three weeks. My husband said that he didn't want me to go back to work afterward. I was shocked because this is something we never have talked about before. But he said that circumstances changed and if it was about money, he will pay me my salary," the expectant mother began.

She explained that her husband built her a gym in their basement, and he does all the grocery shopping or gets their groceries delivered.

"I have never agreed to this. I love my job and he knows that. But he said his decision is final and that I should be grateful," the woman continued.

Meanwhile, her husband told her to ask her loved ones and friends whether or not they would stay home if they were paid to do so.

"[My] mom said she definitely would stop working. I didn't ask the rest of my family because he had this 'I told you so' expression on his face," the woman concluded.

In the comments, users urged the woman to reconsider her marriage.

"Trust your gut. There are so many red flags in this post, especially that he waited this long to spring this on you, so you'd have the impossible choice of single parenthood or staying with someone who expects you to basically submit and 'be grateful,'" one person wrote.

"DON'T EVER fully financially depend on a man. You'll be disappointed every time," another commented. 

"You’re in a horrible position but better alone than with someone and miserable. Good luck with the birth and the baby. Have people you trust for that in case your husband kidnaps the baby," someone else weighed in.
