The phrase "a picture is worth a thousand words" has been around since 1911. The phrase was actually plagiarized and paraphrased from a 1906 quote from Henrik Ibsen who said, "a thousand words leave not the same deep impression as does a single deed."

Variations of the phrase have been used in advertising and in everyday life ever since.

The only good news from the fire is that no one was injured in the fire or when putting it out.

The bad news is there were some highly valued paintings in the home that burned up in the fire.
