U.P. Gem is Another Contender for Michigan’s Best Burger
Michigan’s burger scene is legendary—tiny drive-ins, family-owned diners, and old-school joints where the patties are as iconic as the locals who swear by them. Several chains like Halo Burger, Bagger Dave's, and Mr. Burger all originated in the Mitten State. Plus, Michigan is known as the home of the Olive Burger.

This makes it tough to pick a top burger—but many national publications try. Several have previously crowned Motz's Burgers in Detroit the burger to beat. This time, though, it’s an Upper Peninsula gem stepping into the spotlight, welcoming diners to the U.P. after they cross the Mackinac Bridge.

Known for their Big C ,a 3/4 pound burger, and the slightly smaller Big B, the St. Ignace restaurant has been serving locals and tourists for more than 50 years. Tasting Table raves: “Imagine a Big Mac, but made with the care and expertise of a small-town, dedicated burger joint that's been in business for decades—that’s what you get here.”
Clyde's burgers are griddled to order, cheese is perfectly melted, and each one comes on a soft bun that can handle the generous toppings. Pair it with classic fries and a milkshake, and it’s easy to see why people make a special trip just for this burger! This year, Clyde's debuted something new: The Beast Burger, made with Wagyu, elk, bison, and wild boar!
