Soccer Returns to Detroit in a Big Way
Grand Rapids isn't the only city in Michigan getting a soccer team and a new stadium. Detroit City FC has unveiled the name of its upcoming soccer stadium.
I remember when Detroit had a soccer team called the Detroit Express, which played at the Pontiac Silverdome from 1978 to 1980.
Soccer is Growing in Michigan
I remember playing soccer at school as a kid, and my 5th-grade teacher, Mr. Kerskowski, said, "Someday soccer will be as big as the NFL." Soccer hasn't reached that level in America yet, though it has worldwide.
What's so great about soccer is that both boys and girls can participate in the sport, and it's inexpensive for schools to have teams. With the growth of soccer in Michigan, especially with Grand Rapids getting a team and a new stadium, it’s no surprise that Detroit is following suit.

Given how big soccer has become globally, it only makes sense that Michigan and other states have professional soccer teams of their own
Detroit City FC Announced the Name of the New Stadium
According to WXYZ TV, the Detroit City Football Club (DCFC) has announced that the new name for its stadium is AlumniFi Field, which will be built in Corktown. DCFC is set to begin competing in USL Championship games starting in 2027. Ticket deposits for the 2027 season will open on August 26.
I'm sure this new stadium is giving the DCFC and soccer fans in Detroit a reason to celebrate. The Detroit City FC CEO Sean Mann said, "As longtime residents of the city, the leaders and founders of the Club view this stadium not only as an opportunity for our organization and sport, but as a civic endeavor to give back to the city we love."

I'm sure AlumniFi Stadium will bring more than just soccer to Detroit once it's completed, especially with its 15,000-seat capacity—not including additional space on the field for concerts.
