Over the years some really big movies have been set or filmed in Michigan. Below is a brief list:

That is just a short list.
Most movies made in Michigan are usually done in Detroit because of city scenery and sound stages but many movies are made around Grand Rapids. So, what movies are set and made in the Upper Peninsula? Let's find out from the Yoopers.

What movies were set or made in the Upper Peninsula? Well, who better to ask than the people who live there? A Yooper put a thread on the Upper Peninsula Reddit page asking, "Any Good Movies Set or Filmed in the UP? Here's what the Yoopers came up with.
Reindeer Games popped up right out of the gate. Somewhere in Time I had heard of but didn't know it was made in the U.P. I did like the battle at the bottom of the thread regarding Escanaba in Da Moonlight. I liked that movie but I'm a deer hunter.
The Anatomy of a Murder which is based on a book about a 1952 murder in Big Bay has come up a couple of times and sounds very interesting. Never heard of Marsh King's Daughter but Escanaba in Da Moonlight and Reindeer Games keep coming up.
Poster "Micah_JD" provided links to movies Nowhere Michigan, Up There, Abandoned: Angelique's Isle, and Superior. Here is a link to the thread if you want to dive deeper into those flicks. Some of the same movies are mentioned in this section of the Reddit thread but The Dwarves of Demrei is another to add to the list.
A couple of people pointed out that the video games Portal and Portal 2 were based on research labs in the U.P. Movies to add to the list are Dinosaur Cove, The Northbound Saga and another mention of the Jimmy Stewart starred Anatomy of a Murder.
A few more titles popped up in this final piece of the Reddit thread like Middwarp, A Simple Plan, Nimrod Nation, and Children of the Night.
