It has been a long tradition for many anglers to get out on Michigan lakes and rivers in search of catching bass. One Michigan man got a bit of a surprise over Memorial weekend with his catch.

The fisherman's name is Bob Golec and he has fished Portage Lake in and many others in Michigan for several years but over the Memorial weekend, he makes the catch of a lifetime.

Golec was jigging a plastic worm along some weed beds, which is often a great place to catch largemouth bass when he got a good strike. Golec said when the bass jumped out of the water he saw that it was gold in color.

Golec's first reaction was is there something wrong with the fish? It turned out to be a rare catch where a genetic mutation occurred and altered the skin pigments of the fish turning it into a golden bass.

According to Fox 17, Golec said, "I feel blessed, more than special. And I mean that seriously. This lake out here, and all the lakes I fish, they've provided our family with a lot of great meals and camaraderie."

The story of that golden largemouth will be told for years to come once Golec gets it back from the taxidermist.
