Green Day Detroit Show Was Great But Something Happened
I took my son to see Green Day in Detroit and it was a fantastic show but something happened early in the show that stopped it for about 10 minutes.
Green Day Saviors Tour
The "Saviors Tour" featuring Green Day with special guests the Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and the Linda Linda's was at Comerica Park in Detroit on September 4, 2025. As the sign says Green Day performed their albums Dookie and American Idiot in their entirety plus songs from Savior and other big hits.
My son and I missed Linda Linda's and Rancid but got to the venue in time for the Smashing Pumpkins to start their set. They started their first song as we walked into Comerica Park. It was our first time at the park and we were very impressed.
It was my 2nd time seeing the Smashing Pumpkins but the first time didn't really count because I was working a festival all day and left after their first song to get some rest before the event's second day. The Pumpkins were really good now that I've seen a whole set. Billy Corgan sang and played great as did the band. The new guitarist Kiki Wong was a nice addition to the band.
Something Happened 20 Minutes Into Green Days Set That Stopped the Show
Green Day opened their set with "The American Dream is Killing Me" and then went into the performance of their full album Dookie. On the fourth cut which was Longview. The band got to the 3rd verse and then bolted from the stage. It reminded me of when Dimebag Darrell of Damage Plan/Pantera was shot and killed on stage during a Damage Plan show. Green Day not only rushed off stage, they were hauled off in golf carts away from the stage area of the field. A sign popped up on the screen that said "Show pause. Please standby for details." 10 minutes later fans erupted as the band members were brought back to the stage on the golf carts.
From where I was sitting I didn't see the guy run out on stage but Meatball who does Loudwire Weekends on GRD said a guy ran out. The video above captures the moment. There were immediate rumors of a drone appearing in front of the band which later turned out to be true. Security thought there was a threat and had a protocol to get the band members off the stage and they did.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Detroit Police Department spokesman Cpl. Dan Donakowski said, "There was an individual that flew a drone into Comerica Park, and because of that, Green Day was taken off the stage." The person flying the drone was detained and police are still investigating the incident.
Below is a better view of how Green Day was taken off stage.
Green Day came back out right where they left off with Longview and continued their set which was amazing considering being removed from the stage for security reasons. Singer Billie Joe Armstong said, "How you guys doing? Everybody Ok.? Then asked fans to put their phones away and said, "Let's be here, right now."
The night turned out to be a night my son and I, and Green Day will never forget.
