Lovefood.com recently took on the delicious task of finding the best cookie in every state, digging through reviews, awards, and plenty of personal taste-testing. Their for the top cookie in Michigan?

A standout from Avalon Bakery.

Avalon has been a Detroit staple since 1997 and has a location in Ann Arbor as well. They're known for their incredible bread made with 100% organic flour, and even helped kick off the whole “artisan toast bar” trend in Metro Detroit long before it was cool.

But while the bread gets plenty of love, there’s another item that has fans swooning: the Sea Salt Chocolate Chunk Cookie.

Customers rave about the perfect balance of sweet, melty chocolate and just the right hit of flaky sea salt, with crisp edges and a chewy center.

With high-quality chocolate chunks and a texture that’s impossible to resist, it’s no wonder this cookie has earned such devoted fans. I love the idea too, of using the cookie in place of graham crackers for s'mores.
