Prison Officer Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Inmates

It is illegal for corrections officers to have sexual contact with the inmates. One Michigan prison guard allegedly didn't get the memo and is looking at hard time.

Sexual contact by a corrections employee with a person under the DOC's jurisdiction is second-degree criminal sexual conduct, which is a felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Michigan Corrections Officers and Inmates

The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) has a zero-tolerance policy toward all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment involving prisoners, in accordance with the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act.

It is illegal for corrections officers, prison employees, contractor, or volunteer to have any form of sexual contact or sexual relationship with an inmate.

If a corrections officer did have sexual contact with an inmate, the officer cannot use "Consent" as a defense in a court of law. Michigan has a zero-tolerance policy on all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment involving prisoners, even if the guard was coerced by the inmate.

Former Prison Guard Charged With Assaulting Inmates

According to MLive, former corrections officer Joshua Timothy Lee is accused of of allegedly sexually assaulting multiple female prison inmates at the Women's Huron Valley Correctional Facility just outside Ann Arbor.

Lee was charged with four counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving sexual conduct with a state prisoner.

Lee is currently out on a $5,000 bond but if convicted on all four counts, he is looking at 60 years in prison if convicted.
