We're still in the early days of November, but it already feels like everything has transitioned to winter. Every advertisement features sleigh bells, and Michigan has already gotten a taste of snowfall. Perhaps the most annoying part for those of us who live in Downtown Grand Rapids is that odd and even parking has started back up again.

This is a necessary evil, as when we receive sufficient snowfall, it requires the hardworking snowplow drivers to have enough room to clear the roads. However, it can be confusing to understand precisely when the "no parking" is in effect. That's why we're here to break things down for you.

What Is Odd/Even Parking?

Starting November 1st and until April 1st of the following year, parking on the street has become a little more complicated. On odd dates of the month, you can only legally park on the side of the street with odd addresses, and vice versa.

You can park on that side of the street for 7 hours each night from 6 pm to 1 am. Parking on both sides of the street is allowed outside of this time frame.

What This Means For You

This means you must think ahead about which side you will park on. If you plan to park overnight, it's essential to have your car parked on the designated side before 1 am the following morning to avoid receiving a ticket.

If you're parked on the "correct" side before you go to bed, you will be illegal overnight. Not only do you risk getting a ticket, but you also might get yourself plowed in, which is arguably worse.

Again, this will remain the case until April 1st, regardless of whether it is snowy or not. Stay alert and check the date before parking.
