Karma Was On Full Display At This West Michigan Whitecaps Race
The West Michigan Whitecaps continue to be a staple for a fun day at the ballpark, from their absurd but delicious ballpark food to the silly antics between innings. Not to mention, the Whitecaps are actually very talented, with many players getting pulled up last season to help the Tigers during their hot streak to end the 2024 season.

While throwing out the first pitch (my brother horrendously threw a pitch waaaay outside years ago) or partaking in one of these games is memorable, few mid-game antics have proven as memorable as the Whitecaps appliance race.
The Greatest Race No One Remembers
Recently, on the r/grandrapids subreddit, a user shared a video of "the greatest race to ever take place in Grand Rapids" from nine years ago.. The premise for this race is the "Home Gas Showdown", a race in collaboration with DTE Energy, with three kids all in various home appliances. One kid is in a green dryer, one in a red oven, and another in a blue water heater.

The task is simple: run to centerfield, run around a thermostat, and back. However, I don't think the coordinator expected the event to get as aggressive as it did. Right off the bat, the red oven hilariously trips and flops upside down and is left with its legs facing the sky. Shortly after, the green dryer also trips.
However, the race eventually becomes neck and neck until the red oven pulls off the filthiest move known to man, crashing into the water heater and sending both it and the dryer tumbling to the ground. The red oven is left alone to finish the race, a guaranteed win. All he needs to do is not fall. Karma had other plans.
The Whitecaps are always a great time, no matter how old you are. You can view the entire 2025 schedule here. Just remember: cheaters never prosper.
