It didn't take long for Western Michigan University to announce a new football head coach after firing Tim Lester 10 days ago.

Six Years With Tim Lester at WMU

Former Western Michigan football head coach Tim Lester will not be running on the field anymore with the team after 6 years of his leadership. Lester led the team from 2017 to 2022 with an overall record of 67-55. Lester took the Broncos to 3 bowl games only winning 1.

I have to say that Lester definitely seemed surprised by his removal as head coach but you have to hand it to the go by going out with nothing but class. I found Lester's tweet about leaving and posted it above that really shows the kind man he is on the field and off the field and hopefully there is a new opportunity for him moving forward.

Western Michigan University Must Have Had a Plan

When you let a college head football coach go and 10 days later you announce your new head coach, a decision was made a long time ago about making a change.

In a Western Michigan University press release athletic director Dan Bartholomae said, "At the start of this process, we were searching for someone with relentless energy and the capacity to lift everyone around them to greater aspirational heights. We also sought someone who had demonstrated championship success throughout his life and career."  Now that last line may have been a first bump for the new head coach but was definitely a shot toward Lester at the same time.

Western Michigan University Hire New Head Coach

I will say WMU definitely went after a winner when picking Lance Taylor as the next head coach to lead the Bronco's football team.

MLive reported WMU athletic director Dan Bartholomae said, "Coach Taylor is quite simply one of the most impressive individuals I have had the pleasure to spend time with. He has won championships as an athlete and as a coach at all levels of our industry, including within two separate Power 5 conferences. He has recruited and mentored Heisman finalists, and some of the NFL's finest. He has coached in NFL conference championship games. He has coached six bowl games and in the College Football Playoff".

Taylor was recently the offensive coordinator and receivers coach at Louisville but does have a big resume spending time on the coaching staff of Notre Dame, Carolina Panthers, and Stanford. He also got a great headstart as a graduate assistant at his University of Alabama alma mater under Nick Saban.

Hopefully, all this experience, success, and work ethic that Taylor shows will lead the WMU Broncos to similar success his previous teams have experienced.
