I’ve never been to Hawaii, but as a kid watching reruns of Hawaii Five-O, I remember seeing people welcomed with a lei when they got off the plane. I know it's true because my sister and I were able to send my parents to Hawaii, and both received a lei when they arrived at the airport.

Why do Hawaiians give visitors a lei? Giving a lei has long been a Hawaiian tradition deeply rooted in their culture, representing hospitality and appreciation.
I have landed on a plane in Michigan a few times and did not receive a welcome gift. I wonder what would be a welcome gift for travelers visiting the Mitten?

Drivers visiting Michigan see the Pure Michigan welcome signs, but people arriving on planes don't get a sign or a Hawaiian lei. Posters on the Michigan Reddit page had some great ideas for what we should give visitors as a welcome gift when they arrive.
It didn't take long for Vernors to make the Reddit thread.
An orange barrel is not a practical gift, but a funny idea for locals.
The last two posters must be friends.
I'm not sure a petosky stone is practical, plus finding your own is part of the Michigan experience.
We should give them one of those before they leave on the plane.
It would be too expensive, but I wouldn't mind getting one.
Bug spray would make sense in the warmer months, and the state might be able to get a sponsor for it.
