Bedtime comes early for me, doing morning radio. 8:30 to 9:00 is a good time to get a decent amount of sleep. But it's officially hot now, and even with air conditioning, I need a fan gently circulating air.

WRONG! Bad idea some experts say. Why?

I love that little cool breeze that sort of rocks me to sleep, but it seems that I may actually be harming my sleep, and even health.

My brother Al and I had terrible Hay Fever as kids and in a home without air conditioning, we always had a fan on in our bedroom. Summer nights in Indiana could be miserable and that fan, we thought, basically saved our lives. We were so innocent.

In an article from idealhome.co.uk, they say:

"Sleeping with a fan on can indeed make your allergies worse, as simply fans don’t clean the air, they move it,' explains Katie Lilywhite, air treatment expert at AO.com. Dust mites, pollen and other allergens that had previously settled on furniture could be blown into the air and trigger those allergy symptoms."

I'll be darned. So that is why we suffered so much during our Indiana summers.

However, experts do say that yes, you may sleep with a fan on. But, there are some things you should do.

MSN.com reported that you should clean your fan regularly. Also, run an air purifier in your bedroom to help clean the air and remove the pollutants.

The MSn.com article also says to change your bedding and choose natural fabrics like cotton or bamboo for better airflow, and avoid memory foam, which traps heat.
