Will Grand Rapids Lose Their Red Robin Restaurants?
Here we go again. More "under performing stores," adding to more potential closures, and this time it means Red Robin.
There are 19 Red Robin locations in Michigan, out of 500 nation wide, with two here, Kentwood at Woodland Mall, and in Grandville across from RiverTown Crossings.

Yahoo!Finance reported that Red Robin wants to close up to 70 locations due to financial losses. The did say they will not do it all at once and maybe only 10 to 15 will be shut down this year with the rest closing over the next five years.
We have seen so many local restaurants shut their doors over the past year. COVID took a big bite out of their business, and some of that business hasn't returned.
Why? People are cutting back and not going out as much as they used to. Couple that with prices going higher as costs to the local restaurants, employee and food, rise, so they have to pass the increase on to the diner.
It's a catch 22 for restaurants. They begin to lose money so they have to raise prices, but then they lose business because they had to raise prices. What do you do?
So, with Red Robin closing restaurants, how will it affect Michigan and Grand Rapids specifically?
National Restaurant News says that Red Robin is evaluating the 70 locations considered "under performing," and will make the decision as soon as possible. Many will shut down when their lease expires and they choose not to renew.
As per usual, Red Robin is not saying where those 70 restaurants are.
A representative from Red Robin reached out to us and provided the following statement:

All Red Robin locations in the state of Michigan are locally owned and operated by longtime franchisee, Ansara Restaurant Group. This is a separate business entity from Red Robin Gourmet Burgers (RRGB), and they have shared they have no planned closures at this time.
