I know from experience what a wonderful event location it is as my daughter Molly fell in love with the space and had her wedding there three years ago.

We had a fabulous time since all my children were there and Molly was a beautiful bride.

The Lit has a big auditorium and stage so she was able to have the wedding ceremony and reception in the same room. A band took over the stage following the ceremony and rocked the night away!

The Lit goes back to 1869-70 when a group of Grand Rapids ladies formed a history club which later became the Ladies Literary Association.

By 1887, the association had grown so much that they decided they needed their own building and had constructed what is now called The Lit.

Some great history has passed through those doors. The club has hosted speeches by Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, and Woodrow Wilson in its early days.

The Bradley Company has the real estate listing, noting that this gem of Grand Rapids is registered as both a federal and state historical site and considered an historic and cultural landmark in Grand Rapids

Of course major renovations and updates have taken place over the years with the last renovation in 2019.

It is a must-see building with its classic design and architecture. The building has French plane and stained glass windows including a Tiffany glass window appraised at $225,000.
