This Michigan College Sports Rivalry is the 3rd Most Intense in America

Talk college sports rivalries in Michigan and nearly everyone would think first of the Big Brother - Little Brother relationship between the University of Michigan and Michigan State.

How about something deeper in the Michigan college sports rivalries? Hope vs Calvin in West Michigan.

Somewhere in between is Central Michigan vs Western Michigan.

Believe it or not, the CMU/WMU rivalry has been ranked the third most heated in all of college sports.

The rankings come from a site called KnowRivalry.com and rank Arizona-Arizona State has the most intense in the United States. Michigan-Ohio State follows that and Central Michigan vs Western Michigan clocks in at number three just ahead of Army-Navy.

The ranking was shared on the Reddit subreddit dedicated to College Football.

The methodology for the survey comes from KnowRivalry's survey of users.

Indeed, if you went to one of the schools there is vitriol between the student bodies.

The schools do play football annually as they both are members of the Mid-American conference. They've been playing since 1907 but a trophy was introduced in 2008, the Victory Cannon inspired by cannons used in celebration at both schools' stadiums.

WMU vs CMU is legit intense. There was one poll a few years back that had that rivalry as the highest. Seriously underrated. Both schools absolutely hate each other

It's hate that may be reserved to just the two student bodies and alumni.

While Clean, Old Fashioned Hate may be the name given to the rivalry between Georgia and Georgia Tech, don't discount the hate between Kalamazoo and Mount Pleasant in Michigan.
