Leave Michigan and Drive 200+ Miles on US 41 Without a Single Stoplight

For many drivers, the stop/go, stop/go of traffic light after traffic light is just a way of life. But in some rural areas stop lights are exceedingly rare. There's a stretch of US 41, a major cross-country highway, that runs well over 200 miles without a single traffic light. beginning right after leaving Michigan.

US 41 runs from Copper Harbor at the tip of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula south to Miami, Florida, a distance of over 1990 miles.

Beyond the Borders: US 41's Wisconsin Odyssey

US 41 crosses the Michigan-Wisconsin border between the communities of Menominee and Marinette. The final traffic light in Michigan on US 41 south is at 10th Avenue and 13th Street. After that, US 41 curves onto Bridge Street and across the Menominee River into Marinette, Wisconsin.

Then, for the entire stretch of US 41 through Wisconsin, there is no other stoplights. The traffic on this major highway can run stop-free through Green Bay, the Fox Cities and Milwaukee until crossing into Illinois. Just 2 miles into Illinois, US 41 next encounters a stop light at Route 178.

It's an interesting mirror image of the final stoplight two miles into Wisconsin and then the next stoplight of the two miles past the Wisconsin line.
