It seems like every week, people are trying to find new and innovative ways to get people to give them their sensitive information and gain access to their bank.

It’s unfortunate that we regularly have to report on new scans that our banks and credit unions have to warn us about, but it’s important to keep our Identity protected. There is yet another new scam, which has hit a Michigan Credit Union, and they are warning the customers to stay diligent, because this new fishing scam could lead them to lose everything in their account.

The Frankenmuth Credit Union put out the warning about a new scam, which they say involves somebody pretending to be someone from the bank and texting them a link. In the post, WNEM details exactly how the fishing scam is executed:

FCU said scammers will send you a text claiming you were charged (for a purchase). The text will say, “If this wasn’t you, click here...” and includes a link, which will take you to a website that looks like the FCU website. Once you log into the fake website, the scammer will gain access to your account and will transfer money to someone posing as a new FCU member, or a money mule.

With anything that ever comes from a bank, messages you a link, you have to treat every interaction as if it is a scam.

Do yourself a favor and contact your bank to confirm whether or not this is something legitimate or if it may be some form of a scam. If you are unsure, the three minutes it takes to make the phone conversation could save you everything in your account.
