The Weather Channel has a meteorologist that makes me want to quit my job and become a weatherman myself, given the amount of excitement and thrill he brings to the game. Jim Cantore has been with the channel for a while now, and has never been shy about putting himself in places of danger during terrible storms to get the most realistic and accurate coverage possible.

But it's been said by many that Jim Cantore has his own "effect," and it should be pointed out that if he's ever in Michigan, it's probably not a good thing and you should seek shelter right away. But why? As the Charlotte Observer points out, if he's around, bad weather isn't far behind:

Cantore has a reputation for being right in the middle of severe storms. It’s his work in the midst of those storms that has made him the meteorologist his viewers hate to see coming — if Cantore is in town, it means it’s time for everyone else to leave. The Weather Channel has really leaned into the phenomenon. A 2011 video created by the outlet shows Cantore on a beach vacation. Whenever people see him, they run, worrying a severe storm can’t be far away.

To be honest, I'm not super into the idea of there being an absolutely devastating storm hit Michigan, but to see some of his wild reactions, like when he experienced 6 cases of snow lightning in one report, sounds like something awesome to witness in person.

That being said we can only hope that this winter and upcoming Spring treat Southwest Michigan with some bit of mercy, considering the violent storms we saw in 2024.

West Michigan Ice Storm Brings Beauty & Carnage To Kalamazoo

The first thing I witnessed this morning was a loud "CRACK" then turning my head to see a tree limb snap off and fall to the ground. It gets so cold and heavy once the ice absorbs into the wood that the limbs just can't take the pressure from the weight and will snap
