A potentially deadly situation was averted at Allegan High School, as police have released information regarding a 15-year-old girl who planned on creating a mass shooting event at the school earlier this month.

15-year-old Mya Barron, who is being charged as an adult, was arraigned Thursday, September 25, by the Allegan County District judge with charges of safe breaking, which alone is a possible life sentence.

She’s also being charged with a false report or threat of terrorism, which goes up to 20 years, and two minor firearm charges. Mlive is reporting how, according to a written arrest affidavit, she planned on carrying out this event.

Mya Barron allegedly wrote online that she would ram her father’s vehicle – loaded with gasoline and fireworks – through the cafeteria windows by putting a cinderblock on the gas pedal. She allegedly said she believed the vehicle would explode in the cafeteria, saying " “If it does, that should cause enough chaos for me to get in, shoot the cop in the lunch room, and just go trigger happy on anyone I see.”

Where and When Did She Go Wrong?

It's scary how fast things escalated for her, as it was almost two years ago that she left a kind comment on November 22nd, 2023, on the school board's shout-out page.

I would like to thank Ms. (Mallory) Miller for being a very good teacher. I do very well in her class, and she is good at the subject she teaches. I also feel like I can always go to her if I ever need anything. Her classroom is very comfortable for me, and she is just overall one of the best teachers I’ve ever had.

So how could things have gone so wrong in just two years?
