Has Big Penny eaten yet in 2025?

This is a question that probably doesn't make sense to anyone outside of the Greater Lansing area. But for those in the know about Big Penny, you're probably thinking to yourself, "huh, I don't think she has...".

Big Penny, Lansing's Truck Eating Bridge

Big Penny, or known by her full name Penny the Truck Eating Bridge, is a bridge on Pennsylvania Avenue in Lansing that has literally and figuratively taken on a life of its own.

What makes Big Penny so interesting (and why she's named the 'truck eating bridge') is because Big Penny has an especially low clearance. Just 12 feet, as a matter of fact. And it's that low clearance that has Big Penny "eating" up trucks left and right.

Drivers don't realize how tall their trucks or RVs are when coming up to Big Penny, and they end up getting stuck and/or getting the tops of the vehicles all smashed up when trying to drive under the bridge... despite the numerous signs and and flashing lights and digital sign that activates for too tall vehicles.

I mention all of that to say... I don't think Big Penny has had a meal in 2025 yet. Big Penny munched on 26 trucks in 2024 alone (at least 79 since 2004).

And I say yet because let's face it, it's an inevitability that someone will get their big truck stuck under there.

But here are the facts as they stand;

Neither Penny the Truck Eating Bridge Facebook Page or the STUPID - Lansing Facebook Page have made mention of Big Penny having any meals lately. Neither does the Lansing subreddit.

The Penny the Truck Eating Bridge Facebook page even mentions at the end of January that it hasn't had anything to eat in the last month.

They do also point to the fact that 127 no longer has construction happening on it (at the moment), which has reduced the number of vehicles driving by.

Let's see how long we can go without incident. Speaking of, did you know that there is bridge in Australia that has a similar issue? They actually dedicate a whole website to keeping track of all of the bridges victims.

It's appropriately named: 'How many days since Montague Street Bridge has been hit' dot com. For the record, at the time of this writing, it was only 4 days without incident.

Can someone create a website like this for Big Penny?
