Did Kid Rock Kill Faster Horses?

Michigan's Faster Horses Music Festival will not happen in 2025, and some fans think Kid Rock may be the reason.

Speculation began to form in late fall of 2024 that trouble was brewing for Faster Horses. Longtime festival-goers got suspicious when Faster Horses failed to list 2025 dates for the festival on its website. Faster Horses has officially announced it's "pausing" the festival for 2025, with hopes to come back bigger and better in the future.

Back in November, Kid Rock announced that his "Rock the Country Festival" would be coming to the Barry Expo Center in Hastings, Michigan, in June 2025. Posters for the two-day festival display more than two dozen artists who will be part of Kid Rock's event at some point - and that's prompting some fans to wonder whether Kid Rock drained the talent pool of artists who would have otherwise potentially been booked to appear at Faster Horses.

While Kid Rock's festival does promise appearances from more than two dozen artists, not all of them are scheduled to appear at every stop. For instance, the Hastings event features less than half of the artists on the tour's poster - and exactly none of them have had hits reach Country's Top 40 in the past year. Not exactly competition for Faster Horses. It's doubtful - but not impossible - that Kid Rock's festival has anything to do with the current state of affairs with Faster Horses.

What Are Some Other Reasons Faster Horses May Have Cancelled in 2025?

On the final night of Faster Horses 2024, HARDY prompted fans to throw full cans of beer - injuring several in attendance. Some fans speculate that rowdy behavior - excessive even by Faster Horses standards - may have been the tipping point that ultimately led to the festival not happening in 2025. Others point out that fans can expect exactly that kind of behavior - and even worse - at the typical Kid Rock show; so it's unlikely HARDY had anything to do with this year's cancellation either.

Others point to the increasing costs to host a festival such as Faster Horses as a reason it may now be on hold. Many musical acts are now commanding $1 million or more to appear, and when you book nearly three dozen acts per festival, those costs add up quickly - not to mention staging, insurance, etc.

Bottom line - we may never know why Faster Horses cancelled in 2025. And truth be told - the festival owes no one an explanation. We can only hope that Faster Horses truly does return bigger and better than ever sometime in the future.
