Only in Northern Michigan — Bison Escape Pasture and Block Traffic
So, on Friday, May 23, some bison got a little rambunctious and decided to go for a little road trip down US-31 in Northern Michigan.
Yep, you read that right...bison. Somehow, they managed to bust out of their pasture over at Oleson’s Buffalo Farm in Grand Traverse County and ended up cruising along the highway like they owned the place.
According to Up North Live, Lieutenant Jon Morgan from the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office said deputies got called around 11 a.m. when someone spotted the bison just hanging out in and along the road. Obviously, this caused a bit of a traffic jam on US-31, and I’m guessing most of it was thanks to people slowing down to gawk. I mean, it was bison running wild after all.

The deputies teamed up with Michigan State Police to keep things under control for both the drivers and the bison.
Thankfully, a herder from Oleson’s Buffalo Farm showed up to wrangle the bison and get them back where they belonged. No crashes, no chaos. Just some big, hairy bison making a scene.

I mean, how often do you see bison casually strolling down the highway? It definitely turned some heads. I’ve seen some wild stuff while driving, but never bison on the loose. I’m sure it looked like a scene straight out of Yellowstone.
It's almost as wild as that time an emu was spotted running down US 41 in the Upper Peninsula.
