Recall Alert: 721,000 US Vehicles Face Potential Fire Risk
Nearly 721,000 vehicles are being recalled because of a faulty fuel pump that could crack, causing the vehicle to leak gas and potentially burst into flames.
Honda issued the recall - the second major recall this month by the automaker - after discovering the defect affecting model years 2022 through 2025.
Note: Michigan drivers own the highest percentage of vehicles from domestic car makers v. those manufactured by Asian or European automakers.
What's the Potential Fire Risk?
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on Tuesday that a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could potentially increase the risk of fire, according to MSN. The high-pressure fuel pumps could potentially crack, causing them to leak fuel which could result in the vehicle bursting into flames.
There have been no reported injuries or deaths due to the faulty fuel pump, but 145 warranty claims have been made against the car maker since February 2023. Dealers will replace the high-pressure fuel pumps for customers free of charge.
What Honda Vehicles Are Being Recalled?
The recall is being issued for 720,800 Honda vehicles. The following Honda models are affected:
- 2023-2024 Accord
- 2023-2024 Accord Hybrid
- 2025 Civic
- 2025 Civic Hybrid
- 2023-2025 CR-V Hybrid
However, recall letters are not expected to be mailed to owners until December 4. Owners of the vehicle models listed above are encouraged to contact Honda customer service at 888-234-2138.
MSN also reports that 1.7 million Honda vehicles were recalled earlier in October for potential steering gearbox assembly issues that could cause excessive friction and make steering difficult.
