Food Expert: Popular Michigan Cereal Has Alarming Cancer Link
A huge issue is brewing in Battle Creek.
According to a former FDA agent, your kids' favorite cereal may not be good for them at all.
EX-FDA Says This Is The Worst Cereal
The former FDA "food chief," Dr. Darwin Detwiler, shared with the Daily Mail that Kellogg's Froot Loops is the worst breakfast cereal that is sold in the United States.
Why is Froot Loops the worst cereal?
Dr. Detwiler stated that it is because the colorful rings that your kids love are "heavily processed and contain high levels of added sugars, artificial dyes, and preservatives, which are linked to health concerns."
According to Detwiler, Froot Loop's recommended serving size is not enough to fill you up.
Also, it contains almost half of your kid's daily sugar allowance. So, first thing in the morning, your little one has already nearly enough sugar for the full day.
However, that is not the only concerning part about this cereal.
Froot Loops also contain the food dye Red 40, which helps to give the loops their neon red color.
If you do not know this already, Red 40 has been linked to cancer. As of right now, several European countries have banned Red 40.
This discovery has lead to rather disgruntled people.
Kellogg Protest
Hundreds of people have started protesting outside of Kellogg's headquarters in Battle Creek, Michigan.
The protestors are calling for the company to stop using harmful additives in their breakfast cereals.
According to ABC News, almost 10 years, Kellogg's "committed to removing such additives from its products by 2018."
The company has done so in other countries including Canada, however, they have not made that change for the United States.
Kellogg's has stated that its products are safe to eat and meet all of the FDA standards.
