Jury Duty Scams Go Rampant
A Reddit post, from Thursday, November 21st, details how this Reddit user was almost scammed.
"Just received a call from the “Kent county sheriffs office” about missing jury duty. Everything I was told sounded incredibly legit and to save you some time - it is a complete scam. I was finally able to get a hold of the REAL sheriffs office and they said you would never receive a call about missing it. SO DON’T FALL FOR IT!"
If you have fallen victim to this jury duty scam, you are not alone. It has become so consistent and terrible, that Kent County Sherrif's Office released a statement on social media.
"The KCSO wants to make everyone aware of a recent phone scam. Someone is calling citizens and identifying themselves as Lt. Thome. Citizens are told they missed jury duty and have to pay a fine to avoid arrest. The KCSO will not call you and ask you to pay a fine over the phone for missing jury duty. If you receive a suspicious phone call please contact the KCSO right away and do not pay any "fines."
