There are some area campers that are not so happy with their campground and now the state of Michigan is stepping in.

According to WOOD, an Michigan company that runs several campgrounds have been ordered to cease and desist some business practices the state says are unlawful.

Outdoor Adventures, the company that owns several campgrounds across the state, has had almost 30 complaints against them for violating the Michigan Consumer Protection Act.

Michigan Attorney General, Dana Nessel said, "Outdoor Adventures appears to have taken egregious advantage of dozens of Michigan residents, taking their money under false pretenses and the refusing refunds and cancellations. We cannot and will not allow any company to mislead people into spending thousands of dollars of their hard-earned money."

A couple of the campgrounds are located near Grand Haven and Kalamazoo.

Pamela Chappell who signed a five year membership to a campground where the sales rep said, no there will not be any additional fees. Well it turns out the rep mislead Chappell as she and her husband have been charged $41 a month for almost five years which has added up to almost $5000.

According to the Better Business Bureau Serving Western Michigan, there is some stuff the sales reps have left out that are hidden deep into the contract. Some of the contracts in question are three generations long.

Here is the statement from Outdoor Adventures:

"We are aware of the Attorney General's notice that we received on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019. We look forward to collaborating with our members and the Attorney General's office to work through any confusion concerning our memberships. Outdoor Adventures' mission is to provide the best experience for families to enjoy the great outdoors and create lasting memories together. We will continue to fulfill this mission with our approximately 19,000 satisfied members throughout Michigan. We will have a conversation with the Attorney General's office into their allegations and look forward to defending our business practices."

Hopefully the conversation goes well because the Attorney General's Office may file a lawsuit if the concerns are not taken care of immediately.
