Police Shoot Suspect, Suspect Gets Charged

A police officer in Wyoming, Michigan, shot a man and now that man is getting charged.

According to WOOD, 37-year-old Manuel Cavasos will be charged with one count of resisting and opposing an officer. He was already charged with felonious assault on his girlfriend.

Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker said after seeing video evidence of the shooting, Officer Phil Swiercz will not be charged.

The shooting occurred Monday, November 4 on Walter Street when police were called about an argument between Cavasos and his girlfriend.

When officers from the Wyoming Sheriff's Department arrived, they discovered Cavasos was armed with a knife and one of the offers unfortunately had to use his firearm.

Not sure how many shots were fired but witnesses have said multiple shots where heard.

Officers had to apply first aid to Cavasos until EMT's arrived and took him to the hospital. Apparently one bullet hit one of his lungs.

No officers were injured in the incident.
