When the National Weather Service posts guidelines on how to handle a power outage, you know nasty weather is on the way.

If you lived in Michigan for any length of time, you're used to what the meteorologists call a 'Wintry Mix', but that doesn't make it any easier to deal with.

The National Weather Service is calling for a somewhat unpredictable mix of rain, sleet, snow and freezing rain beginning early Saturday morning and lasting into Sunday afternoon. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued from 10 p.m. Friday until 10 a.m. on Sunday.

The Good News? The NFL Playoffs are on TV!

The Bad News? The power could go out, making them impossible to watch.

NWS Grand Rapids retweeted Consumers Energy's guidelines for how to handle a power outage on Thursday morning, and that may be a sign of things to come.

It's too early to call how much of this will snow as opposed to ice, but right now Grand Rapids finds itself in the pink zone of the wintry mix, which means more freezing rain than snow. The current NWS forecast estimates we'll get about three inches of snow in this storm, and a considerable amount of sleet and freezing rain could plague parts of West Michigan.
