Saturday is ‘Record Store Day’ And GR Is Celebrating! [Video]

All three remaining record stores in Grand Rapids have big plans for National Record Store Day.

When I was younger, the record store was where we went to socialize with fellow music fans and to hear new music played over the store's sound system.

Younger fans have become familiar with the lusher sounds of vinyl records, and have kept record stores thriving over the past few years.

April 13 is Notional Record Store Day, and all three record stores have some great deals, some special collectors albums for sale and live music on tap, and one store even has a parade scheduled.

Let's start out in Grandville, where the Corner Record Store (3562 Chicago Dr SW) has put together this video to promote the day's activities.

Over on the West Side, Dodd's Record Shop, which is the oldest record store in Michigan (est. 1951) has a full slate of live music planned starting at 11:00am, with Beaver Xing, Jonathan Beaver & Stacy Slikkers Noonan, and Scott Dittenber performing and, of course, their annual parade starts at 3pm.

And finally, downtown in the Heartside neighborhood, Vertigo Records has planned a full day of activities, highlighted on their Record Store Day Facebook page:

- As has been the case in recent years, we will be putting the exclusive Record Store Day releases in the general inventory rather than setting them aside.

- No backpacks, please. Because of the volume of foot traffic, we need to insist on this, sorry.

- We'll have a list of DJs to be announced soon. This will be the second year without bands. We've loved hosting live music by artists in our community through the years, but it's too much of a challenge logistically to have bands loading equipment in and out all day. We hope you understand.
