I'm joined by former Wealthy Street Boys gang member Thomas "Tahj" Gillespie. We chat about as a teenager what attracted him to gang life, what it was like being a member of the Wealthy Street Boys, the sense of family it provided him at the time, activities Grand Rapids gangs are involved in, what lead up to him going to prison at 18, his time in prison and what it was like, what made him realize he needed to walk away from gang life, people who took him under his wing and mentored him, how the world seemed different once he got out of prison, his involvement as the Director of Operations of Life's Connections, how he now help kids stay away from going down the gang path, things we can do as a community to highlight positive options to kids, helping gang members have the courage to walk away from gangs, his thoughts on the recent shootings in Grand Rapids and solutions that have been proposed by community leaders, the importance of positive mentors, what makes a good mentor, how to connect with Life's Connections and more……..
