The First Ever Pasty Olympics is Making Its Way To Michigan Later This Month

If you're from or have lived in Michigan for a while, you're probably well aware of our love of pasties.

In fact, we love these meat-filled pockets of joy so much that in the Upper Peninsula, we have an entire yearly festival dedicated to them.

And now the annual Pasty Fest in the Keweenaw Peninsula village of Calumet is taking their love of these meat treats to a new level with the 'Pasty Olympics'. An event that they say is 'probably the first of its kind'.

They will be taking the Bake-Off, the Pasty Eating Competition, Car Show, and Horseshoe Tournament and adding them to this event. They also plan to introduce a few new ones including the Pasty Pull, a Pasty Relay Race, and Pasty Fest Art Prize.

One of the highlights will be the Pasty Relay Race will have teams of four racing to assemble a giant pasty through a four-stage gauntlet that will be replicating the art of pasty making. They say it will be messy, but that's a "small price to pay for everlasting pasty glory".

They'll also be adding the Pasty Pull, which is basically just a truck pull powered by pasties. So while you won't be pulling a truck FULL of pasties like I'd imagine, it's a great excuse to eat your weight in them afterward as a reward.

They're also going to have their own version of ArtPrize with a Pasty theme, They say residents from the Upper Peninsula will have an opportunity to submit pasty-themed artwork to be displayed in local Calumet businesses, and people will vote for their favorite throughout the festival.
