It was a huge event on September 18, 1981. Former Presidents, foreign leaders, and many celebrities were here for the dedication of the Ford Presidential Museum.
Wow, what a mixture of activities this weekend. We have everything from an exhibit in honor of First Lady Betty Ford to the Grand Rapids Heart Ball. We have music and comedy. There is boxing and hockey. It’s the final weekend to get your taxes done. There is a Motorcycle Swap Meet and a Petting Zoo. There is also a Home and Lifestyle Show.

Today, Carter, the wife of former President Jimmy Carter, is in Grand Rapids in honor of the 96th birthday of the late Ford, the spouse of former President Gerald Ford.

Thousands spent the evening waiting in silence outside The Ford Museum downtown Grand Rapids last night to pay his or her final respects for first lady Betty Ford.
Earlier in the day, her casket arrived at the museum via motorcade from the G.R. Ford International Airport. A prayer service was held followed by remarks from Governor Snyder who shared a few remarks about her mighty legacy of service
