This video, culled from 8mm film footage of a car driving around Grand Haven in the '30s, is surprising for a couple of reasons.

As someone who once lived in Grand Haven, my first surprise was how little the town has changed, at least the downtown and lake front area. Most of the growth in Grand Haven has been out around US 31, while downtown remains unscathed.

Second, and this my be my naivete, but I didn't know that many people had cars in the '30s. I'm watching this thinking, wow, it was just as hard to find parking in 1930 as it is now.

And people back then also would jaywalk right in front of your moving vehicle! Dumb tourists!

Same as it ever was, same as it ever was...
