A study done at Northwestern shows that you can avoid divorce in 21 minutes.

The study suggests that you and your partner should sit down three times a year and write a short essay about one another. Each essay should take about 5-7 minutes to write and explain how you feel about your marriage. Essays should also bring up any arguments that need to be resolved and where you disagree.

Even if you just let the other person read the letter and then discuss it quickly it showed a huge boost in married couples confidence. The fact that things are written for the partner to look back on and remember really helps.

The study looked at couples that had been married 1 month to 50 years and saw improvement across the board.
